Docutek ERes is
optimized to run on a Windows 2000 or 2003 server. The most critical part
of any Web server is the amount of RAM available for caching pages.
To increase speed in the other components we recommend a dual processor
machine, SCSI hard drives, and a RAID controller. The final hardware
decision should be based on several factors unique to your institution,
such as student enrollment and the number and type of items on reserve.
For you convenience we have listed a sample configuration that will
provide you with exceptional performance today and for several years.
Please note that our systems will run reliably on less powerful
machines; the following is a recommended new server configuration
but not a minimal required specification:
Operating System : |
Windows 2000 or 2003 Server with IIS 5/6 |
Processor(s) : |
Dual Pentium III (or Xeon) at 2ghz |
RAM : |
1024 MB (DDR preferred) |
Hard Disk(s) : |
30GB of storage space |
Other : |
CD-ROM drive, floppy drive,
keyboard, mouse, monitor |
There are several optional components that will help make your server
faster and more robust. Some possible additions include:
- RAID-5 Controller: Provides faster disk access
speed and data redundancy in case of drive failure.
- SCSI Disk Drives: 15,000 RPM drives will also
cut down on disk access times.
- Redundant Power Supplies: Provides backup
power in case one supply fails.
- UPS system: Provides constant power in case
of loss of power or blackout.
Docutek would be glad to review any server that you may have already
on site to see how well it will work with our products. We can also
create a machine recommendation for your specific institution based
on your student enrollment and current reserve holdings. Please contact

Team if you would like more information or a obligation-free consultation.
